Kvarner
Going down the ski slopes or sunbathing at the sandy beach – Kvarner has it all. The only thing that stays between snowy scenery, and the terrace of the café bar with the sea view, is a half-hour hour drive. This region is made up of hills, mountains, islands, and scenic bays, and is worth visiting all year round.
Influenced through history by Italy and Austria, Kvarner today has some of the oldest and most prominent summer resorts in the country. Its gastronomic offer oozes Italian charm, and the architecture is reminiscent of the Austro – Hungarian rule. To feel the region’s heartbeat take a walk along Opatija’s Lungomare promenade or toast with the glass of belica overlooking the town of Kastav. And if you decide to visit its biggest city, Rijeka, choose February to be part of the widely known Carnival.
In the wintertime, the most popular destinations are ski resorts like Platak. Spring and fall attract many nature lovers who walk along the hiking trails, while summer is the best to visit the islands. Pag is well known for its paski cheese and long night parties, while Cres has its griffon vultures. Krk has some of the most beautiful beaches, and Rab amazes with its dazzling history. Whatever time of year, there is always time for a Kvarner.
